Market Intelligence - Currencies

During the week of 18 – 22 January, most African currencies depreciated by up to 3% against the US dollar, including Madagascar’s Ariary (-3%), the CFA Franc (-2.7%) and Morocco’s Dirham (-2.4%) as the US dollar strengthened globally. In contrast, the Djibouti Franc (+1.5%), the Gambian Dalasi (+3.0%), Nigeria’s Naira (+0.7%) and the Zambian Kwacha (+0.8%) appreciated over the week.
