Citadel Capital Plans to Invest in East African Railways

The Egyptian firm Citadel Capital recently said it plans to invest 150 million US dollars over five years to improve the railway line from Kenya to Uganda. Citadel said it had acquired a 17.5% stake in Rift Valley Railways (RVR), which operates 2,000 kilometres of track in East Africa. The rail network connects Kenya's port of Mombasa to the interior of Kenya and Uganda, including its capital Kampala, but is a century old and has suffered from chronic underinvestment.
