Regional Focus - East Africa

Each of the five East African Community (EAC) members (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda) will equally contribute to the construction of a new regional railway system estimated to cost USD 25 billion. This decision was made due to the urgent need to establish the required infrastructure to facilitate investment in the region especially roads, railways, and power as reported by the EAC at its 3rd Investment Conference in Kampala during the week. The EAC also reported that it would link inland waterway ports with transport corridors in the region. A total of USD 74 billion was pledged at the Kampala meeting to rehabilitate railways, roads and water systems.
