Land-ho for the Main One Cable

The primary landfall structures for the massive Main One telecommunications cable were finished in late October 2009. These structures will connect Sexial, Portugal to Accra, Ghana and Lagos, Nigeria. See the images below for an idea what these structures look like (click to see larger images):



Soon, the cable will be fully constructed by subcontractor Tyco Electronics Corporation and will be prepped for laying. Then, the the cable will surf itself (with the assistance of hauling ships) from the western coasts of Africa to Europe:

We know we've already stressed it in a previous article, but the successful laying of this cable will bring about an almost unimaginable increase in bandwidth available to the western shores of Africa. We have a video coming soon.
