Dr. Joseph Stiglitz joins AfDB's Eminent Speakers Series

Today, Dr. Joseph Stiglitz, Nobel Laureate in economics, professor and noted development economist, offered his insights as the 15th presenter from the AfDB's eminent speakers series. His speech, entitled "Post Financial Crisis: Options for Africa," sought to provide AfDB management & staff, diplomats based in Tunis, local press and other parties in attendance with recommendations on the way towards reestablishing economic growth in Africa.

Stiglitz cited many policy failures in developed economies and strongly urged that African governments avoid the same failures. He furthermore encouraged African leaders and the AfDB to seek a balance between the market and the state in order to bring about sustainable economic development that minimizes inequality. This, he argued, will bring about a degree of social development that is crucial to the success of any national economy in the globalized world of today.
