
Stiglitz cited many policy failures in developed economies and strongly urged that African governments avoid the same failures. He furthermore encouraged African leaders and the AfDB to seek a balance between the market and the state in order to bring about sustainable economic development that minimizes inequality. This, he argued, will bring about a degree of social development that is crucial to the success of any national economy in the globalized world of today.
